The UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) is offering an exciting opportunity for a User Interaction Designer with the ability to work in a small, but impactful UX team to translate user and business requirements into prototypes following Lean UX, GDS and user-centred principles. You will have an appreciation of design principles and process. You will have the desire to see your work have maximum impact in a dynamic sector, representing UX across this global Hydrographic Office. You will have experience of working with prototyping tools, facilitating design activities and collaborating with a variety of stakeholders.


Job description

As our User Interaction Designer you will be responsible for:

  • Translation of user and business requirements into design approaches or services that meet user needs
  • The creation and validation of storyboards, user journeys, process flows and site maps to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas.
  • The creation and design of workable prototypes derived from User Research and customer engagement using multiple media
  • Conducting usability tests with end users to evaluate concept designs and redesign prototypes based on the results of the testing.
  • Update and review of components and patterns in the UKHO Design System that will be used throughout all Admiralty products and services ensuring these standards are adhered to across all levels of development and that there is a consistent look and feel to UKHO products.
  • Ensuring all designs are communicated and understood in collaboration with software developers for implementation.
  • Collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders (including but not limited to, User Researchers, Product Managers, Delivery Managers, Development teams, GIS Developers) to define and implement innovative solutions for designing products, interfaces and experiences
  • Keep abreast and informed of the wider digital landscape and, developments in interaction design in particular.

This post is hybrid, you will be able to work from home, but also be willing to travel to and attend the office in Taunton for relevant workshops, meetings, team events as necessary.

Process:

Single Stage Interview via TEAMS. You will be contacted to book a suitable slot if you are shortlisted (see our Candidate Pack for further information)

  • Interview will be with a panel of no more than 2 people and will last approx. 45mins
  • You will be asked to pre-prepare and present a 10 minute presentation to the Panel at interview. Please see the 'Interview Criteria' section above.
