Are you a Registered Nurse – Adult, (RN) who is looking to work in Surgical Nursing?
Here at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust we are looking for Adult RNs who would like to join our busy general and specialty Surgical wards at Worthing Hospital.
Chiltington ward is a General Surgical ward caring for patients that are admitted via planned pathways and also as emergencies through our Accident and Emergency Departments and Emergency Floors. The nursing care that our surgical patients require is varied, often requiring periods of high levels of intervention and support. As such, this provides an excellent learning environment.
Our wards are supported by the Practice Development Team and we are able to offer a wide variety of in-house training, related to clinical skills and personal development. We also offer the potential to study at Brighton University
Our Nationally recognised Patient First Improvement system ensures that all members of our staff are actively encouraged to contribute to making improvements in their areas of work.

Clinical
1. Is responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of care and assists in the interpretation of data relevant to the patient’s condition and progress
2. Assists in the identification of patient problems and needs with the patient, their carers, senior nursing staff and other staff as appropriate
3. Identifies the priorities of care for patients
4. Identifies realistic goals for patients in care plans
5. Gives skilled care to patients and provides support to their carers
6. Administers drugs and treatments as prescribed according to the NMC guidelines and the Trust’s Guidelines for the Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines
7. Changes care plans and goals according to evaluation and discussion with the multidisciplinary team
8. Demonstrates an understanding and skill in the care and management of the critically ill patient
9. Works closely with all members of the care team to ensure the needs of the critically ill patient are met
10. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of CVP lines and the administration of IV Therapy in accordance with Trust Policy.
11. Participate in the smooth and effective discharge planning for patients
12. maintains accurate documentation to facilitate the continuity of care for patients transferred to other areas
13. Ensures that discharge review documentation is completed and reimbursement material is communicated to relevant body in timely fashion
14. Liaise with nursing and clerical staff to enable efficient administration of ward work
Professional
1. Demonstrate a professional approach to work in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times
2. To have knowledge of and adhere to ward and Trust policy and professional standards.
3. To maintain confidentiality, privacy and dignity surrounding the patient/client’s admission and treatment at all times
4. Ensure that documentation is complete and up to date, in line with NMC and Trust guidelines
5. To meet PREP requirements. To identify own learning needs and ensure own professional development is maintained by keeping up to date with practice developments
6. Ensure that mandatory and statutory training needs are met.
7. Participates in Clinical Supervision.
