Job Description
We are seeking two exceptional candidates who can manage and navigate complex agendas. You will have a strong grip of the operational issues relating to urgent and emergency care, with strong insights and experience around workforce. You will be a compassionate, inclusive, and a visible leader, who can provide clinical leadership which inspires, motivates and empowers nurses and AHP’s within the group and across the trust. You will be able to think strategically, with experience of working at a Matron or equivalent level in the acute setting as a minimum. Please see the attached job overview.
The Deputy Group Director of Nursing will be assigned to group operational activities and specific, time defined projects. It is recognised that these areas need an experienced nurse with the capacity to manage complex and multi faceted issues and to ensure the delivery of transformational projects in line with the operational demands of the Group.
The postholder will be a key member of the nursing leadership team, who will lead, inspire, and deliver our patient strategy framework fundamentals of care. In partnership and supporting the Group Director of Nursing, they will play a leading role in the development and implementation of both the group and corporate strategy.
The postholders will work in a supportive nursing team on an ambitious nursing agenda to support the trust objectives. In addition, this leadership role will work in partnership with the Directorate General Manager and Clinical Director to lead an admitted care directorate.
The postholders will have an opportunity to deputise, lead on nursing agendas and have autonomy within the admitted care directorate. Our nursing leadership team works with an open door policy, in a compassionate, visible and inclusive way and we are seeking post holders with similar attributes.

To provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence within the Group for specific projects which relate to Nursing Workforce, Quality, Patient Safety whilst balancing the operational demands of the Group and organisation.
To empower Matron, senior sisters and charge nurses to deliver high standards of clinical care consistently whilst managing operational matters
To support successful delivery of the transformation plans
To ensure the patients’ experience is optimised for the level of care they receive and the environment this is delivered in. To set and monitor high standards of care, demonstrating the ability to lead by example and to motivate others.
To actively support the Group Director of Nursing in the delivery of the key performance indicators.
To performance manage direct reports and enable personal and professional development which underpins the strategic direction of the service and the Trust.
To actively role model and promote effective performance management across the department.
To work with clinical teams to ensure all activities are met within the agreed financial framework.
To work with other professional leads to develop training programmes which ensure continual professional development and that staff are fit for purpose.
