About the Role:



To lead and deliver site plans for plant, people and processes, within the context of the overall Manufacturing strategy and aligning the delivery requirements of the GB&I Operations.
To lead the engineering site teams to deliver optimum use of resources, that ensure the site delivers safety, environmental, productivity, quality, food safety, cost, and service objectives in an environment of high morale and engagement



Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop engineering training, skills and knowledge within the factory, promoting a professional team culture using the 70/20/10 approach.
  • Lead and develop capability of direct reports through performance appraisals, coaching, and training.
  • Drive Engineering team performance to achieve OEE and Reliability figures across the site, on or above target.
  • Assist the engineering budget holders with monitoring and controlling the engineering budgets and spend across the site, with agreed limits to deliver the most cost-effective results.
  • Effectively control site engineering services to meet the factory requirements and drive improvements to all energy ratios.
  • Proactive in implementing continuous improvement with regard to line operating practices and equipment – ensuring self and team support any focused improvement activity (e.g. RCM Programme, TPM, RCA, 5S, etc.).
  • Promote, develop and sustain problem solving techniques across the Engineering team.
  • Promote, develop and sustain the change control system.
  • Assist in planning and co-ordinating routine maintenance activities (e.g. line overhauls (APM’s) and Asset Care Days), liaising with the Engineering Planner to achieve maximum plant effectiveness/utilisation.
  • Plan, allocate, and evaluate work carried out by the team, individuals and self. Liaise with the Engineering Planner to highlight any issues and/or suggested improvements.
  • Effectively monitor downtime information and identify areas for improvement and corrective actions.
  • Promote, develop and sustain the ‘Lock-out, Tag-out’ (LOTO) and Permit to Work (PTW) processes across the site and ensure the team are utilising these processes correctly.
  • Perform root cause analysis on all equipment failures as specified, establish and implement appropriate next steps to prevent recurrence and communicate the results appropriately.
  • Liaise and manage OEM’s and other contractors as required with regard to site access and safety during support and service visits (e.g. Permit to Work). Ensure contractors are supported whilst on site, and signed-off accordingly on exit.
  • Identify any shortfalls regarding spare parts and liaise with the Site Maintenance Manager(s) and Stores function to ensure that all required spares are stocked, and in the correct quantities.
  • Develop and embed robust systems for communication of issues between the shift engineering teams, the shift teams and operations and the day engineering function.
  • Ensure that health and safety is a priority for the team, ensuring that risk assessments and safety audits are completed.



Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:

  • Strong people leadership skills and ability to integrate differing functional demands is essential with the ability to flex styles to differing individual needs.
  • Practical Engineering / Technical / Facilities Maintenance experience with a proven track record of maintenance service delivery.
  • Competent role model with coaching, monitoring and facilitation skills.
  • Extensive experience of working within a strategic, target driven manufacturing environment which is measured by robust Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s).
  • Working knowledge and application experience of delivering specific Health, Safety & Environmental legislation.
  • Experience of managing engineering budgets.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • Highly IT literate (especially Microsoft packages and SAP/SAP PM).


Qualifications:

  • HNC in Electrical/Mechanical engineering and/or a Degree in an Engineering discipline with relevant technical applications and/or equivalent and relevant engineering experience
