About The Service
The Cardiff and Vale Joint Equipment Service (JES) Team is looking to employ Warehouse Supervisor based at our warehouse, Units 2 & 3 Lambourne Crescent, Cardiff Business Park, Llanishen, Cardiff CF14 5GF. The Councils’ Joint Equipment Service team provides equipment to people within Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. We order, deliver, collect and maintain a wide range of specialist equipment to help people live as independently as possible within their own homes. The equipment is ordered by health care professionals, such as District Nurses, Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapists and includes a wide range items from specialist beds and hoists to bathing equipment and seating and walking equipment used by children in schools. The successful applicant will work as part of a team to deliver this first class service.
About the job
You will be responsible for the direct supervision of three warehouse staff (one of whom is based at a different site location to the warehouse this position will be based at). You will be responsible for ensuring the day to day functions of the warehouse are undertaken effectively and safely – this will include goods receipting, picking of loads for deliveries by the driver/installer teams, liaising with callers to the warehouse (this will include members of the public, health care professionals, suppliers etc.). You will additionally deputise for the Warehouse manager in their absence. The Warehouse receives goods from suppliers, accepts returned equipment direct from residents, clinical professionals etc. Up to 7 picks a day need to be arranged for onward delivery by the driver teams. Equipment returned to the service is collected and cleaned by a third party contractor and the warehouse needs to manage this function and check the goods when returned from the cleaning company to ensure all parts are present and the equipment is functioning correctly. Items returned to the service that require maintenance (servicing, weight testing etc.) will also need arranging by the Warehouse. Please note that this service operates from 8am – 4pm Monday – Thursday and 8am – 3:30pm on Friday.
What We Are Looking For From You
We are looking for an experienced supervisor capable of leading a team of staff in a busy and challenging warehouse environment. You should have experience of direct supervision of staff in a similar environment and be able to show how your previous experience can be applied in this exciting and rewarding role. The position is a physically demanding one based 100% of the time within the warehouse and you will need to be capable of carrying out a wide range of manual handling activities (lifting, pulling, pushing etc.). All work involving stock is managed with the use of handheld devices so an understanding of mobile technology/apps is essential. The post will require you to use a for fork lift truck and while a current licence would be advantageous, training and support to enable the right candidate to obtain a full licence could be made available. A full and clean driving licence is essential as you may be asked to operate a Council vehicle (less than 3.5 tonne van) should the situation arise (e.g. to drop a vehicle off at our central transport services for inspection/repair).
