JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Placement Development Project Manager – North Central London

Hours of work: Full time (37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday)

Remuneration: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum

Contract length: Fixed – 12 months in the first instance with possibility to review.

Responsible to: Programme Manager Islington Training Hub

Accountable to: Programme Director for North Central London Training Hub

Responsible for: Management & expansion of clinical placements in Primary & Community Care in liaison with higher education institutes, NHS England & host learning environments.

Location: Islington GP Federation: 16-18 The Studios, 8 Hornsey Street, London, N7 8EG, and any other location to be agreed in the North Central London boroughs of Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey & Islington.

About the role

The Placement Development Project Manager will be responsible for supporting the expansion of clinical placements in primary care learning environments for the five boroughs of North Central London (NCL) (Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington).

This role will lead on three main areas of work:

1. Support the alignment of educational audit processes for pre-registration and post-registration nursing with NHSE’s Quality Framework standards for approved learning environments in primary care.

2. Working with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) and relevant training providers, adapt student placement models to promote primary care as a learning environment and grow the number of nursing and AHP placements across North Central London (NCL).

3. Develop and maintain reports on the total number of clinical placements across NCL for a range of professions to monitor educator capacity and ensure high-quality placements are maintained.

This role will work closely with the NCL Faculty and Quality team to promote professional development opportunities for educators to ensure educators have the skills to deliver safe and effective learning. The Placement Development Project Manager will cultivate strong working relationships with other NCL programme and project leads, in particular the NCL apprenticeships, PCAN and T-Level to coordinate placement strategies across NCL.

We are looking for someone who can develop strong links with partners from a range of different sectors. The successful candidate will have a good knowledge of the education sector and supporting learners, either into placements or work experience, or have the relevant industry experience working in a health or social care setting.

The individual will have excellent communication and organisation skills, with the ability to work autonomously and make links to wider workstreams supporting workforce development and training.

The post will be employed by Islington GP Federation, a core member of the NCL Training Hub team.

This role will report to the Programme Manager for Islington Training Hub, with accountability to the Programme Director for NCL Training Hub.

Main duties and responsibilities

o North Central London Training Hub leads (across all boroughs)

o GP practices and Primary Care Networks (PCNs) o Health and social care regulators

o Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) and other training providers.

o NHS England Workforce and Training (formally Health Education England)

o Other primary and community care providers as required.

About NCL Faculty and Quality programme

The North Central London (NCL) Training Hub Faculty and Quality team are responsible for managing the education, training and workforce development of educators for all professions who support learners in primary and community care.

This includes the approval process for new educators and learning environments mandated by NHS England’s Quality Standards framework and establishing NCL Training Hub’s Education Faculty.

In NCL we are growing our network of educators and educational environment for all clinical placements, with a particular focus on growing nursing and AHP placements in primary care. The Placement Coordinator will drive the development of relationships with learning environments aligned to the NCL Faculty and Quality programme, work with Trust placement coordinators to broaden clinical placement opportunities at an ICS-level and engage with Higher Education Institutes to increase capacity and opportunity for primary care placements and rotations.

About North Central London Training Hub

This is an opportunity to join a growing team aimed at developing our health and social care workforce in North Central London.

The North Central London (NCL) Training Hub is a network of multidisciplinary primary care teams, community providers, and social care providers. Training Hubs receive core funding from Health Education England, but we also have extra commissions from NHS England & Improvement and Local Authorities.

The NCL Training Hub has been established to enhance training, education, and workforce development – with specific focus on enhancing the recruitment of new, and retention of current, staff. The NCL Training Hub has developed innovative educational and workforce initiatives for primary, community and social care. During
2021-22, these innovative models have been shortlisted and won national awards, including from HSJ and Nursing Times.

Additional responsibilities of the role

Policies and make every effort to maintain high standards of infection control at all times thereby reducing the burden of Healthcare Associated Infections including MRSA.

Within their sphere of competence, each member of staff is responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the children, young people and / or vulnerable adults for whom they are responsible or may encounter, in the job role.
