The University of Glasgow Men’s Football Club is looking to recruit a 1'st team assistant coach for its men’s programme for the season 2023/24.
Background
Glasgow University Football Club was formed in 1877 and is one of the most competitive and successful University sports clubs. The club is a full member of the Scottish FA (SFA) and current SFA licenced club. Our first team compete each year in SFA Scottish Cup and SFA South Region cup
Within the club there are 4 different squads; 1stTeam, 2ndTeam, 3rdTeam and U21s Team, who all compete to a high level in Saturday (WOS senior football league, SAFA and SYFA) and Wednesday (BUCS) football.
The club has progressed hugely under the SFA Licensing requirements and we have now created an established performance ethos and culture within the club leading to a number of successful seasons including promotions and cup finals in the last couple of years. At the heart of our philosophy is to create a performance culture developed by our coaches and players to ensure the best possible footballing experience for all. We boast access to top class facilities with our training facility at Garscube while our 1stTeam plays all home games at Airdrie FCs Excelsior Stadium.
We are actively seeking applications in the form of a covering letter and CVs from enthusiastic, highly motivated, and aspiring coaches committed to helping the club continue to progress for next season and beyond.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To plan, prepare, deliver and evaluate a coaching programme to develop all team players.
- Provide support and advice to the head coach and others within the coaching team.
- Brief all players on the aims of the session and the purpose of each activity.
- Ensure that you are well briefed about any special needs of the players involved i.e. medical condition/disabilities
- Attend any meetings with fellow coaches where appropriate.
- Make players aware of their progress.
- Abide by and promote sound ethics and club policy, child protection, fair play and equal opportunities to all members.
- Develop your own skills by attending SFA coach education courses, sports coach UK courses and any in-service training that is organised by the club.
- Take responsibility for ensuring that the equipment is correct and is kept in good working order.
- Be aware of and promote the clubs codes of conduct for coaches and players at all times.
- Be aware of and follow the procedures for recording accidents.
- Be aware of the club’s Health and Safety policy and Emergency procedures and take responsibility for Health and Safety aspects during activities.
- Provide information on sports science and lifestyle guidance.
Job Type: Part-time
Part-time hours: 7-9 per week
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Glasgow: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Experience:
- Sports coaching: 2 years (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Scottish FA Coaching Qualifications (preferred)
