Job Title: Shift Team Leader

Location: Basingstoke

How will you make an impact?

The Peptone & Culture Media Shift Team Leader:

Reporting to the Peptone & Culture Media Manufacturing Manager the role holder will be required to work as part of a three-shift rotating pattern;

Will be responsible for leading shifts on a weekly rotating pattern of 06:00-14:00, 07:00-15:00 and 14:00-22:00.

Flexibility of working patterns will be required in order to support business needs.

The role holder will share responsibility for the safe and compliant manufacture of Peptones and Dehydrated Culture Media, supporting revenue of approximately $250M dollars.

Ensures all products are manufactured with the highest level of quality and compliance in a safe and timely manner that will meet customer expectations while meeting all cost commitments.

  • Responsible for ensuring a flexible, trained and agile team is fully in place and in use by ensuring that all staff are both trained and competent. Additionally, teams should have a sufficient level of cross training to support business demands and training status is maintained / refreshed where required.
  • Owns and drives a culture of “Right First Time and On Time”.

  • Performs all job duties in a safe manner, consistent with the Code of Ethics and the 4-I Values.
  • Monitors, reviews, and improves manufacturing and quality related activities and drives investigations, corrective and preventative actions.

  • Improve performance each and every day through personal actions & commitment, effective collaboration with their wider peer group and coaching of their teams.
  • Incorporates Lean Leadership into daily work to include Visual Management, Stand-Up Meetings, GEMBA Walks, and Leader Standard Work.

  • Mentors and develops direct reports. Listens, supports, engages and encourages employee suggestions and input to achieve excellent results while driving a culture of accountability.
  • Responsible for maintaining proper staffing levels, scheduling and organizing work assignments within the company policies and procedures.

Create successful Work Environments:

  • Builds strong networks across all functions including Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Technical, Engineering and Planning to ensure the goals and performance of the department meet the business demands.

Move Strategy to Action:

  • Establishes goals and sets priorities for associates working within the department to ensure drive and focus towards meeting or exceeding established common business objectives.
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to drive improvement throughout Production in support of department and site efficiency targets to better improve customer service.

How will you get here?

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management, science or engineering is desirable.

Experience

  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment and proven leadership experience is essential.
  • A continuous process improvement mentality with the desire to make a difference.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge, experience or training in Lean techniques.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making ability in a fast paced and multifaceted environment.
  • Good organisational skills and timekeeping.
  • Previous experience managing a team.
  • Possess a proven working knowledge of other business functions such as Logistics, Finance, Sales, Engineering, and Human Resources in addition to Manufacturing and Quality.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and lives the Thermo Fisher Scientific 4-I core values of Integrity, Intensity, Innovation, and Involvement.
