Summary:
Reporting to the Head of Operations UKI, the Underwriting Operations Manager will be responsible for the management of Everest Underwriting Assistants in providing support services to Everest underwriting teams. The role holder will possess a strong collaborative and influential communication style and have proven relationship building skills within the insurance industry, across the Everest business and their direct reports.
A process and best practice driven mindset is key, ensuring accuracy of data and management reporting. Promoting the continuous improvement of productivity, service quality, data quality and customer satisfaction.
This position will be based in our London office with a hybrid schedule of working two days remote each week.
Key responsibilities:
Monitor that underwriting support services are delivered to the agreed quality and defined service levels
Oversee the day-to-day operational management of the UK & Ireland underwriting operations business unit to ensure adequate control of underwriting, premium, claim and reinsurance processes. Monitor that the business unit’s systems and procedures are consistent with Everest “best practice”
Oversee the day-to-day operational management of all service providers including performance, reporting and escalation where appropriate
Work with the Delegated Authority Manager to ensure all Binders are managed in accordance with the Everest
Delegated Authority framework, Asta Delegated Authority framework and local country regulatory frameworks
Ensure that the monthly, quarterly and year-end business timetable is adhered to for the business unit, ensuring effective communication with other departments and that all internal and external reporting deadlines are attained
Produce operational reports and metrics, management information and other statistical data and analysis as required by the Operations management and underwriters in managing the business unit, reporting to committees, Everest Insurance Ireland Board, Asta Syndicate Board, and for brokers, clients and reinsurer presentations as may be required
Produce exception reports and act on them in a timely manner to ensure accurate risk details are maintained on Everest Underwriting System(s) including premium estimates, exposures, reinsurance cessions and regulatory/business coding
Work with the management team to achieve operational efficiencies within the business unit by the progressive implementation of common systems, working practices, service levels and procedures. Implement process change resulting from regulatory change, market reform or adoption of best practice
Work with other Everest International branches to ensure consistency on procedures and system changes or enhancements
Co-ordinate administration support to underwriters to include attending the Lloyd’s box, organising client meetings and other ad hoc duties as required
To build and maintain a programme for staff development, promoting self-management, personal development and career progression
Develop and maintain good working relationships with underwriting staff and key Everest stakeholders, all external customers including Asta, brokers, cover holders, reinsurers, local country regulators and 3rd party service providers
Deputising for UK & Ireland Head of Operations when needed
Provide guidance and support to other Everest branches as they develop and contribute ideas to improve the way the division operates
Any other ad hoc duties or tasks as defined and agreed with the Head of Underwriting Operations
Skills & experience:
Proven experience of managing 3rd party BPO providers
Management level Operations experience with a Lloyd’s Managing Agent/Insurance Co
Superior stakeholder management at all levels
Outstanding communication, both written and verbal
Ability to lead, motivate, mentor and manage people
Ability to think proactively and offer solutions to problems
Ability to understand the bigger picture and visualise the end-to-end process of transactions
Extensive technology experience including PAS, DMS, Workflow and MS Office suite
Strong analytical and control skills to ensure integrity of data, ability to audit and self-audit
Strong project management, prioritisation and time keeping skills
Professional qualification, e.g. ACII or similar desirable
