We have an exciting opportunity to join our team at the Nottingham Radiotherapy Centre as a band 6 Paediatric Therapeutic Radiographer. We are currently working to deliver the midlands paediatric radiotherapy hub in partnership with Birmingham.

We would love to hear from any enthusiastic and motivated radiographers who would be interested in further developing their careers and playing an integral role in the experience of paediatric radiotherapy patients and their families from across the midlands region. You should have a minimum of 18 months post registration experience and have a specific interest in paediatric care.

The preferable working pattern would be 2 days one week and three days the next. Alternating with the lead paediatric therapeutic radiographer with the aim of providing seamless care to patients..

Main duties of the job

As a specialist therapeutic radiographer the post holder will practice under the direction of the Lead Paediatric Therapeutic Radiographer working towards achieving agreed levels of competency, skills and knowledge within their scope of clinical practice.

Be a proactive, motivated and effective member of the paediatric and TYA radiotherapy team – supporting all aspects of radiotherapy for children and young people and contributing to the onward development of this service. Acting as a key worker for children and young people undergoing treatment.

Building rapport with other professionals involved in the care of children and young people with cancer including, but not limited to, Clinical Nurse Specialists, therapeutic radiographers and key workers at other Trusts, Play Specialists. To recognise when these additional services would be needed or beneficial and to understand how to access them effectively.

In partnership with members of the multidisciplinary team the post holder will develop individual competence and knowledge which will support the provision and evaluation of a seamless specialist paediatric, teenage and young adult (TYA) radiotherapy service, ensuring patients receive the highest standard of clinical care.

Through work based learning and development the post holder will develop specialist knowledge and skills, demonstrated through the provision of advice, education and support to staff, patients, their families and carers. Whilst undertaking the role the post holder will be supported by the Lead Paediatric & TYA Therapeutic Radiographer to enable them to achieve competency in agreed areas of specialist practice through exposure, training and education.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • HCPC registered therapeutic radiographer

Desirable criteria

  • Training in paediatric resuscitation
  • Has other Paediatric specific Training

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Minimum of 18 months post registration experience
  • Has proven specialist clinical skills in most aspects of radiotherapy

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of working within the NHS
  • Has demonstrable experience of working with Paediatric patients and their families

Communication and relationship skilss

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of good verbal and written communication skills
  • Uses highly developed communication skills to give information on radiotherapy and related side effects to patients and others taking into consideration the age of the patient.

Analytical and judgement skills

Essential criteria

  • Can analyse and interpret treatment data and communicate to junior staff
  • Assess patients to determine their suitability for each daily treatment.

Planning and organisational skills

Essential criteria

  • Can demonstrate effective workload management of self and others/treatment machines

Desirable criteria

  • Able to adapt to changing situations at short notice if patient condition changes.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

  • Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£41.90 for enhanced and £21.90 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
