An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Building Assistant at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to join our busy Estates & Facilities Team who are responsible for the maintenance and meeting legal compliance levels at our City campus. You will provide a professional service alongside our in house maintenance team providing a safe and pleasant environment for staff, visitors and patients alike.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide the day-to-day maintenance to NUH properties at the City campus site. Either this will be in the form of reactive tasks or pre planned maintenance to ensure statuary compliance is met. Required to organise own day to day work tasks or activities along with planning and organising of straightforward tasks with Ward Managers / other Managers when working in occupied areas. Applicant must have significant experience related to construction and minor new work and building maintenance work in large organisations along with being competent in the use of building tools, power tools and small hand tools .
The post holder will be expected to be guided by standard operating procedures, good practice and be able to understand what results and standards are to be achieved. The post holder will also be expected to be able to carry out duties independently and within small teams without routine supervision. On occasions there will be the requirement to work alongside the other trades within the building team or to assist external contractors. Good communication skills are essential for reporting and escalating issues about the site.

The properties are located on three separate sites, City Hospital Campus, the Queen’s Medical Centre Campus and Ropewalk House. NUH is an acute hospital divided across these three sites delivering exceptional care to Nottingham and outlying areas. Our Team is tight knit and work well together with this vacancy suiting a competent individual with a level of skill who is looking for a Team that can provide a high level of service and support on an on-going basis. Working week will be 8.00am -4.00pm Monday to Friday with annual leave starting at 27 days annually along with Bank holidays
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will be required to make judgements involving facts or situations, some of which require analysis of options to determine the best course of action, e.g. problem solving and recognition of relevant building, drainage, roofing, flooring and structural defects.
The post holder will be required to have highly developed physical skills with a requirement for accuracy with the manipulation of fine tools and equipment.
The post holder will be required to undertake surveys or audits as necessary to own work and reports to Line Manager.
The post holder will be required to occasionally exert moderate physical effort for several long periods with frequent requirement to exert moderate effort for several long periods and a frequent requirement to exert intense physical effort for several short periods during a shift, including transporting and erecting access equipment including Extension Ladders, Mobile Tower Scaffolding, lifting and carrying heavy materials in excess of 15kg.

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

ID and Right to work checks: NUH authenticate ID and right to work documentation including passports and driving licenses through a system called Trust ID. The system will run a check against the key security features within your documentation. The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.

- Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£41.90 for enhanced and £21.90 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay).
