Job overview

We have a vacancy for a support secretary/ clinical typist in our fantastic Gynaecology team, based at City. This is an exciting opportunity to join our friendly Gynaecology team for 30 hours a week.

You will be working as part of a team providing high quality audio typing and clerical duties for the department, working closely with the Speciality Secretaries/ PAs.

This would be an ideal opportunity for a competent typist to gain experience within a medical secretarial team.

Main duties of the job

You will be a conscientious and enthusiastic team player with excellent audio typing skills, good organisational and communication skills with a sound typing background.

You will need to be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of confidentiality issues, be well motivated and reliable. You will be able to understand and accurately convey verbal and written information and be able to remain calm under pressure. The ability to manage your time and prioritise your workload whilst remaining patient focused is essential.

You will be responsible for the audio typing of clinical correspondence within specified timescales. You will need to be a fast and accurate audio typist with knowledge of medical terminology. You will also be able to prioritise your workload with constantly changing demands, to meet agreed deadlines. You will be able to use your own initiative and respond to queries appropriately.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • RSA III Word processing or equivalent experience
  • 5 GCSE’s or equivalent C or above – must include English
  • Computer literate to ECDL standard or equivalent.

Experience/ Skils

Essential criteria

  • Proven typing and admin experience
  • Fast and accurate audio typing
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Demonstrates an understanding of patient / client confidentiality
  • Can complete letters, forms, reports and tables using computerised technology from information collected

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of working for the NHS
  • Experience of using NHS systems eg Medway PAS and Notis
  • Medical terminology
  • Knowledge of 18 week and Cancer targets

Communication and Relationship

Essential criteria

  • Must be able to clearly and accurately convey information verbally gathered from both verbal and documented reports
  • Uses correct grammar and spelling with excellent verbal and written skills
  • Must be understanding and helpful
  • Uses information gathered to inform others

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
