Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 nurse currently working within sexual health to develop to a Band 6 Senior Sexual Health Nurse.

The successful applicants will be paid as a Band 5 until they have completed the STIF integrated training followed by a 3 month consolidation period before moving on to the Band 6 position.

Upon completion of the training and consolidation period, the post holder will provide care for patients on the sexual health pathway. This will include the diagnosis and management of patients presenting symptoms of STI's, sexual dysfunction, HIV, contraception requirements and any other sexual health related problems.

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist nursing care by assessing, diagnosing and planning care to meet the needs of Sexual Health Patients.

Take responsibility for the care of a caseload of Sexual Health patients requiring specialist Sexual health care.

Provide advice, information, education and counselling to patients who attend the department and to those who are diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection or require contraception.

Work within multi-disciplinary teams, providing specialist advice to clients within hub, spoke and outreach clinics.

Teaching and assessing medical and nursing trainees.

The post holder will be expected:-
To provide specialist nursing care by assessing, diagnosing and planning care to meet the needs of Sexual Health Patients.

To take responsibility for the care of a caseload of Sexual Health patients requiring specialist Sexual health care.

To provide advice, information, education and counselling to patients who attend the department and to those who are diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection or require contraception.

To work within multi-disciplinary teams, providing specialist advice to clients within central, peripheral and outreach clinics.

Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.

Adhere to trust policies and participate in future developments within the service.

Person specification

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Current Level One NMC registration
  • Evidence of continuing professional development / reflective profile
  • Competent in medicines management
  • Recognised Contraception and/or Sexual Health qualification or working towards
  • Possession of a Mentoring qualification
  • Experience of issuing medication to PGD
  • Trained to Level 3 safeguarding
  • STIF Intermediate/ Integrated working towards or willing to undertake this training

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of study at degree level or willing to undertake
  • Research training/experience
  • Completion of all local competency packages essential to role and Specialty
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification or willing to undertake
  • NDFSRH
  • Competent in implant insertion & removal (Loc SDI) or willing to undertake.
  • Diploma level study in sexual health

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working within sexual health setting
  • Supervision of non-registered staff and students
  • Ability to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, relative/carers and staff
  • Evidence of Safeguarding Training
  • Ability to manage a caseload
  • Ability to travel to locations used by sexual health services

Desirable criteria

  • Demonstrate an involvement in link nurse, or project work
  • Experience of audit and research within the clinical area
  • Leadership experience

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

  • Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£41.90 for enhanced and £21.90 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay).
