Job Description: Stores Assistant
Position Overview: A Stores Assistant, also known as a Storekeeper or Stock Clerk, plays a vital role in maintaining the inventory and ensuring the smooth operation of a warehouse setting. The primary responsibility of the Stores Assistant is to manage and organize merchandise, supplies, and other items within the store or warehouse.
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Management:
- Receive incoming shipments and verify the contents against purchase orders or invoices.
- Inspect deliveries for any damages or discrepancies and report any issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Accurately label and tag received items for easy identification and storage.
- Update inventory records using computerized systems or manual documentation as needed.
- Assist in conducting periodic stock audits to reconcile physical stock levels with the records.
Stock Organization:
- Arrange and organize merchandise or supplies on shelves, racks, or designated storage areas.
- Implement the "First-In, First-Out" (FIFO) system to ensure the proper rotation of stock and reduce waste.
- Keep the store or warehouse clean and tidy, ensuring that all items are in their designated places.
Order Processing:
- Assist customers or internal staff in locating products or supplies within the store or warehouse.
- Help in preparing and packing orders for shipment, ensuring accuracy and proper packaging.
- Generate packing lists, delivery notes, and invoices as required.
Stock Replenishment:
- Monitor stock levels and report low inventory levels to the store or warehouse manager.
- Assist in placing orders with suppliers and follow up on order status and delivery timelines.
Returns and Exchanges:
- Handle customer returns or exchanges according to established store policies and procedures.
- Inspect returned items for damages and process necessary paperwork for returns.
Safety and Security:
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while handling heavy items or hazardous materials.
- Help in maintaining a secure and organized stockroom, ensuring theft prevention measures are followed.
Customer Service:
- Provide friendly and helpful customer service, addressing inquiries and assisting customers with their needs.
- Offer product knowledge and recommendations to customers when required.
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Stores Assistant or in a related role is beneficial but not always required.
- Basic computer skills for inventory management and record-keeping purposes.
- Physical fitness and the ability to lift and move heavy objects when necessary.
- Strong organizational skills with a keen eye for detail.
