About the role

For many people a legacy is the most incredible gift they can make to the people and causes they cared about during their lifetime. If you have experience of and a passion for legacy management and want to help ensure that the final wishes of our supporters are honoured, then this is the job for you!

This is an entry-level role as a Legacy Administrator undertaking critical administrative duties that underpin the work of the Legacy Management team, with responsibility for the pecuniary bequests the charity receives. As a key member of the Legacy Management Team the successful candidate will work with the team to maximise the value of our legacies, which provide an essential income stream for the charity.

About the Team

The Legacy Management team is currently a small team of five with a Legacy Administrator, two Legacy Officers and Legacy Case Manager all reporting into the Head of Legacy Management. The team sits in the Fundraising Directorate and manages the largest net income stream for GOSH Charity, providing more than £23m every year.

We have just embarked upon an ambitious ten-year strategy to substantially grow legacy income and the Legacy Management team works closely with our colleagues in the Legacy Marketing team to support the strategy.

About You

You will have relevant experience of working in an administrative environment which demands accuracy and attention to detail. You will also be a motivated self-starter capable of managing administrative duties alongside a caseload of active estates, who is sensitive to the emotional impact that death can have on the families of legacy supporters.

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • The ability to prioritise and organise their own workload
  • Strong communication skills across a broad range of external stakeholders
  • The ability to communicate sympathetically with recently bereaved members of the public
  • A basic understanding of probate law and estate administration procedures
  • Strong IT competency including a working knowledge of the FirstClass database
  • Completed the Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration (CiCLA)

About the Charity

Every day brings new challenges at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Every day, around 750 seriously ill children from across the UK arrive for life-changing treatments. Every day, young lives hang in the balance as patients, families and staff battle the most complex illnesses. And every day, the brightest minds come together to achieve pioneering medical breakthroughs that change lives and change the world. This extraordinary hospital has always depended on charitable support to give seriously ill children the best chance to fulfil their potential. Our staff help to raise these vital funds for the hospital. A better future for seriously ill children starts with you.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

We believe that GOSH Charity should be representative of the communities we work with and for and that we should all be striving for a more diverse and inclusive charity sector. You can read more about our commitments to EDI in our EDI strategy on our website. For this reason, we strongly encourage applications from ethnically diverse Communities, the LGBTQ+ community, disabled people, neuro-divergent people and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
