We are currently recruiting for a Payroll Specialist to come and join our team at our Head Office in Ibstock, Leicester Road, Leicestershire, LE67 6HS. Offering Hybrid-working and Competitive salary
PURPOSE
- Contribute to the effective operations of the payroll team. Delivering the end to end lifecycle process.
- Ensure effective control points and quality checks are carried out against defined processes – and all findings are acted upon.

- Ensure payroll compliance, control and governance at all times
- Provide payroll data and reports as and when requested
- Drive and embed continuous improvement and documented processes and controls
- To ensure all relevant legislation and governance is applied at all times
- To deliver on all internal and external audit requirements
- Ensure full end-to-end process documentation is fit for purpose and consistently updated
- Investigate and resolve all customer and stakeholder escalations in a timely manner
- Support HR Operational Leadership strategic goals and objectives
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Key Accountabilities will include (but are not restricted to):
- Responsible for processing payroll for a UK payroll of 3,000 colleagues as part of a team of 3 specialists.
- Ensure timely and compliant payroll reporting as and when required.
- Ensure that all corporate policies, governance and controls are properly administered and adhered to.
- Remain up to date with new legislation and regulatory rulings impacting payroll.
- Provide payroll advice and support to Ibstock UK employees on all matters relating to pay by both telephone and email.
- Working to agreed SLA’s to deliver exceptional customer service.
- Check colleagues input details to ensure accuracy prior to processing
- Effectively administer processes used for processing starters, leaver, salary changes and permanent data adjustments.
- Consistent and effective utilization of set processes to execute transactions.
- Processing and modifications to wages, deductions and payroll taxes.
- Processing electronic payments to employees (BACS).
- Processing payments to HMRC and other 3rd party vendors.
- 100% Data validation for changes to employee bank details.
- Entry of payroll overrides and salary adjustments.
- Execution of employee overpayment recovery process.
- Processing of Tax Month/Year End (including all GL reconciling with FBP’s)
- Processing Start of Year Update testing and sign-off with HR Systems Lead
- Ad hoc payroll duties as and when necessary.
- Processing Tax Month and Year End
- Payroll all non-cash benefits (taxing at source)
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Qualifications CIPP qualified or equivalent is desirable
Essential Experience and aptitude
Experience working within a Payroll environment
Strong organisational and planning skills, demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail.
Demonstrable track record in setting up and running efficient processes within a payroll services environment
Consistently demonstrating team ethics and values
Excellent customer service focus and manner, demonstrating a sense of urgency in resolving issues.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Ability to manage in a team environment, seeking the ideas of others and valuing differing perspectives.
Ability to solve problems and make timely and informed decisions.
Understanding of how and when to escalate issues.
Flexible and adaptable with excellent ability to work cross functionally within an organisation
Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Essential Technical Skills / Ability
Demonstrate an understanding of payroll processes utilised in end to end life cycle
Ability to demonstrate an understanding of UK Payroll and HR legislation and be able to advise where required
Solid fundamentals working with Microsoft applications
Desirable Skills/Ability but non-essential
Knowledge of Zellis/Resourcelink software
