Job Description
At Priory Hospital Newbury we believe that Occupational Therapy is key to unlocking the potential of our patients to support them with their recovery and rehabilitation. We are a 34 bed Recovery and Rehabilitation service for men with enduring mental illness, set on the southern outskirts of Newbury. We have a full and diverse MDT including Psychology, Creative Therapists, Consultant Psychiatrists and excellent physical health care provided by a Lead Nurse and an incredible GP. There are excellent public transport links to Reading, Basingstoke and London which is just a 50 minute train journey.
Within the service is a care pathway offering an admission ward, a community facing ward, a longer term ward for patients with more complex needs and also a 4 bed flat for patients who are returning to independent living in the community. The site is warm and welcoming with a homely atmosphere.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, innovative and forward thinking individual to lead, manage and co-ordinate delivery of Occupational Therapy at the Hospital; ensuring the range and level of interventions, treatments and activities complies with statutory regulations, meets quality standards, and delivers against key performance indicators. Using evidence based and patient centred principles, you will assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions which provide patients with the confidence, skills and coping strategies required for independent living.
To be considered you will need to have a relevant professional qualification, a BSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy, full BAOT membership and HCPC membership/registration, experience in a rehabilitation setting and experience of working within mental health services. A detailed understanding of statutory regulations is essential, as are financial and people management skills.
In addition to on site clinical activities, you will be expected to respond promptly to referrals and undertake patient assessments. As the only Occupational Therapist for the site, you will represent the hospital in Clinical Network meetings for the region and lead the implementation of outcome measures e.g. Cansas and Dialog. You will be very organised, positive, confident and an effective communicator. Previous supervisory/managerial experience for a group of staff will be an advantage as you will be responsible for the effective and efficient management of more junior staff, one of whom is a student OT.
Benefits of working for us include 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and a day off for your birthday, free parking, subsidised £1 meals on duty, contributory pension scheme, comprehensive induction programme and computerised training programme, excellent CPD oportunities, wellbeing initiatives including access to a free employee assistance programme, on-going access to supervision and occupational health services. We have an excellent team and offer a very good working environment with an ever evolving service where ideas and innovation are welcome and are integral to the development of the service.
