An excellent opportunity to join a market leading service-based business within the Harrogate area as a Trainee Finance Assistant. Salary is up to £24,000 and the successful candidate will gain access to full training and a development plan, alongside 25 days holiday, a brand-new refurbished office and further additional benefits. The Trainee Finance Assistant will work in the credit control department and will assist and work directly with the Credit Manager and the wider credit team. The role will primarily be responsible for ensuring that cash is collected and allocated to their own individual ledger. Working with a fun and friendly finance team, there is the opportunity for progression in the future with this business.
This is an exciting, rare opportunity for someone with some basic transactional finance or credit experience to join a business where they will be fully supported and trained.
Key responsibilities for the successful Trainee Finance Assistant will include:
- Building relationships to ensure cash collection on a day-to-day basis, both over the phone and via email
- Maintaining and developing relationships with key stakeholders to retrieve missing information to enable successful collection
- Dealing with queries and any problematic accounts
- Checking company credit scores and reviewing applications
- Setting up terms and conditions of credit
- Working towards clear collection targets and processes
- Daily posting and allocating of receipts, bank reconciliation and processing of sales invoices
- Weekly sales reconciliation and month-end reporting
The successful Finance Assistant will have an excellent telephone manner with strong customer service and negotiation skills.
We are keen to speak with candidates who have some previous finance experience. It doesn’t need to be credit based and you can be at the beginning of your career. You may already be a Accounts Assistant or Finance Assistant, or you may be a Purchase Ledger Clerk looking for a new challenge within credit control.

To be successful in this Trainee Finance Assistant role you will ideally have/be:
- Some previous experience of working within transactional finance
- A positive can do attitude and will be interested in a career within finance
- Excellent organisational and communication skills
- Hands on in approach and will be happy to help in all areas of accounts when needed
- Strong attention to detail and will be able to meet multiple deadlines under strict deadlines
- Computer literate and have experience using MS Excel
