An excellent opportunity for a Project Manager to join a well-established, exciting and growing Lithium-ion space business. The company designs, manufacturers and qualifies batteries for international space missions on satellites, launchers, and interplanetary vehicles. The company’s customer’s include both national and international space agencies like NASA and European Space Agency as well as working across the commercial market supporting missions that include Earth observation, internet of things satellite constellations and global positioning systems. The position is based in the Culham Science Centre near Abingdon in Oxfordshire and is a job that can truly impact people across the globe.
The Project Manager role is responsible for the delivery of both commercial and internal projects on-time, oncost and on-quality through the appropriate management of risks, project gate management, delivery planning and scheduling and budgetary controls. The focus for this role is interfacing with the customer, commercial management, account management and internal project delivery teams. Managing projects up to $1.5M is typical.
- Proficiently project manage spacecraft equipment through detailed planning of the full life cycle from bid generation, design, analysis, manufacture, assembly, test and through successful delivery
- Responsible for the project management of internal developments such as new platform designs
- Responsible for the project management of Lot Acceptance Testing and Qualification Testing of cell batches
- Accountable for the successful overall delivery of each project to agreed baselined costs and schedules
- Accountable for the project management and delivery of more than one project at a time
- Accountable for the management of risk and delivery activities on each project
- Accountable for the schedule management, planning, and control on each project
- Accountable for the management of contractual elements, specifications (SoW etc), and project baselines including the management of change control and tracking
- Accountable for working within and upholding the company’s planning systems through the setting of clear weekly, monthly and annual objectives to their project teams and the whole life of the projects
- Timely and accurate resource demands and providing regular updates as to the progress of these tasks
- Accountable for accurate project cost forecasting and management to a budget
- Accountable for identifying cost and schedule savings in each project to maximise project return
- Accountable for the timely and budgeted purchases on the projects including completing the purchasing control documentation and purchase requests
- Accountable for all timely project reporting as required by the business including all financial and operational matters
- Accountable for following project-management best-practice philosophies centred on the APMP qualification or PRINCE2 methodology
- Accountable for interfacing with all other departments; schedulers, operational, sales, support and finance, to ensure the successful delivery of the projects
- Responsible for ensuring the timely raising of invoices and chasing of outstanding debts
- Responsible for the release of project documentation and maintaining the expected standards of the business
- Accountable for customer account management of smallercommercial customers including updating CRM and identifying opportunities for the business
- Strong technical background in engineering, research and development or science, (preferably a degree-level or post-graduate level qualification)
- Two to five years of relevant project managementexperience.
- Project Management qualifications are desirable, such as APMP or Prince 2
- Valid UK driving licence
- Experience of delivering high value and high-quality equipment
