The Job
Here at GBRTT, we are looking for someone to join our Strategy and Planning team to support the Financial Sustainability workstream within the Long-Term Strategy for Rail (LTSfR). This is a fantastic opportunity to lead both quantitative and qualitative analysis of the opportunities and risks related to improving the financial sustainability of the railway.
There is a specific focus on how to improve the efficiency and productivity of delivering rail, and the role will involve working with subject matter experts to understand the nature of the opportunities and aggregating appropriate data to build an evidence base of the associated costs and benefits.
The Team
Our Strategy and Planning team have a goal to develop the LTSfR, which will be the first of its kind, a thirty year high-level strategy shaped by a set of strategic objectives that have been developed for the benefit of our passengers, freight users, taxpayers and staff, to support Britain’s nations, regions, and communities to achieve their goals, and to benefit the economy and the environment for the long term.
Setting a direction for the railway over the next thirty years, the development of the LTSfR is a collective endeavour drawing on the expertise and insights not only of the rail sector but of those beyond it.
What will you bring to the role
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (other analytical tools also welcome)
- Significant experience undertaking data led business research and analysis
- A good knowledge of performance management tools, reporting and analytics
- Proven ability to review large data sets of rail industry data and produce basis analysis, cross tabulations, power pivots etc. based on that analysis
- Comfortable with facilitating workshops and group sessions with a range of stakeholders
- Familiarity with the concepts of risk and benefits management
- Ability to turn data heavy analytical results into simple messages for stakeholders
- Previous experience of benefits analysis in any relevant context would be desirable
- Appreciation of HMT Green / Magenta books and support of investment programmes desirable
This role is available on a Fixed Term Contract and Secondment basis for 12 Months.
The role is based out of London Waterloo and is hybrid working - covering occasional visits to the office.
- If you’re working within the rail industry and considering applying via a Secondment, we encourage you to have a conversation with your line manager early in the process to support a potential secondment into GBRTT and where successful to support your release.
We're an inclusive employer of choice and welcome applications from everyone. We encourage people to work flexibly and we're open to hybrid working! We’ll also try our best to adapt the recruitment process and offer a reasonable alternative to help support people with disabilities.
