Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to work across Newham’s Community Integrated Mental Health (CIMH) Teams.

We are looking for reliable, proactive and enthusiastic individuals to join our team, supporting service users experiencing serious mental illness (SMI) to positively address their physical health needs.

With a desire to work with people, the HCA will be able to demonstrate compassion and strong interpersonal skills, regularly travelling throughout the borough to provide support to a range of professional partners and service users across communities in Newham.

Displaying a solid recognition for the need of good physical health for SMI service users, the successful applicant will understand how to assess physical health risks. They will also be keen to continually develop further knowledge and improve practice in this area.

Able to facilitate a caring, respectful and inclusive environment, the HCA will actively listen to and understand individual needs, and will be supported by the CIMH Teams. They will also work collaboratively and creatively with service users and family, friends and carers to carry out appropriate physical health assessments and referrals.

Newham’s Community Integrated Mental Health (CIMH) Teams serve individuals in what is one of the most ethnically diverse urban areas in the country.

Work collaboratively within Community Integrated Mental Health Teams (North) to identify, offer and undertake physical health monitoring for those living with SMI and/or requiring antipsychotic drug monitoring.

Ensure clinical systems are updated with this data and relevant health care professionals are notified of results as needed.

Offer lifestyle advice and onward referral for smoking cessation, weight management and other lifestyle interventions.

Participate in ongoing training for the role, as required

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.

Kindly refer to the job description and person specification that is attached to the vacancy profile.
