Job Description

If you’re a self-motivated, passionate and creative designer looking for an exciting and varied role that will allow you to develop a wide range of skills whilst working in the third sector, this could be just the position for you.

We’re looking for a mid-weight designer to join our small but busy team based between Long Ashton and home, to produce all of the Hospice’s branded materials allowing us to reach further, raise more and increase the support available for people who need us.

St Peter’s Hospice is a much-loved Bristol charity that supports thousands of patients and their families every year, providing the best possible end of life care and helping people to live their final days with dignity.

About the role:

The role is really varied, and you’ll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of marketing and communications projects to support the fundraising, clinical and retail teams, whilst implementing our brand.

Your role will include:

  • Developing and producing branded materials for use on digital and print channels
  • Taking creative briefs from within the Marketing and Comms team, on behalf of the teams we work with
  • Developing creative concepts and mood boards for review
  • Taking feedback and working through a design development process to land on a chosen route
  • Artworking all assets for campaigns
  • Designing our bi-annual Hospice print newsletter
  • Being a brand guardian and helping colleagues from different teams across the organisation keep their materials up to date and on brand
  • Attending fundraising and press events from time to time, to support with branding and content gathering

About the person:

To be successful in this role you will have at least two years’ experience in a similar role, either in-house or agency. You will need to have perfected the art of juggling competing demands and deadlines.

You’ll be enthusiastic, a team player, adaptable and have an understanding and empathy for the work of the Hospice.

You’ll also need to be flexible and able to work the occasional weekend or evening to support out of hours events.

Key responsibilities:

  • Producing great creative content across digital and print, with the ability to be both meticulous and work at speed.
  • Managing your own conflicting deadlines and working with internal stakeholders to prioritise and plan workloads.
  • Owning the entire design process from brief through to delivery and effectively managing each step along the way - providing creative concepts, developing designs, and artworking for implementation.
  • Working collaboratively with internal clients, and delivering thoughtful and inspired design to meet deadlines.
  • Working closely with colleagues throughout the briefing and delivery stages, using kick-off meetings, mock-ups, and mood boards to work through ideas together.
  • Exploring different media including photography, graphics, animation and film, to meet the needs of individual briefs.
  • Digital design for performance display ads.
  • Understanding our brand and being a proactive guardian of it, independently providing guidance across the organisation.
  • Ongoing identification of opportunities to update and improve existing materials, offering creative advice to colleagues.
  • Staying up to date with change and progress within the design and marketing industry and seeking opportunities to integrate this into your work.
  • To have a flexible and supportive approach with the ability to deliver large scale well-briefed jobs as well as smaller, short-notice ad-hoc jobs when the business requires.

What we can offer you:

  • Salary: Up to £31,290 per annum (FTE), dependant on experience
  • Working Hours: 37.5 hrs per week, or 30 hrs per week (part time)
  • Location: Long Ashton and home based (50:50)
