About The Role

**Please note that this vacancy is for 18.5 hours per week with a pro rata salary of £16,290.50 up to £17,865.50 per annum**

We are looking for a Lecturer in Art and Design to join our team at Folkestone College.

Art and design is a growing area in The EDGE School of Creative and Business department. You will be delivering teaching and learning in the traditional art and design areas of painting, drawing, print making, and 3D model making / sculpture.Our students often use iPads and graphic tablets and also the Adobe Suite of software to make and develop work so having some digital experience is a positive but not essential.

The EDGE School of Creative and Business is a very industry focused department, and we carry out lots of student projects with local charities, businesses and groups which provide our students with real world experience of the creative industries and we focus on developing professional skills. You would be teaching on level 2 and 3 creative courses and this academic year the timetable for this post is 18.5 hours each week over Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The EDGE School of Creative and Business is a dynamic and fast developing department. In a recent Ofsted inspection, the department was central to hosting an inspector who saw and recognised the valuable link between industry and students learning. The College received an outstanding grade in every aspect of the inspection which reflects thorough planning and implementation of relevant creative technology projects for our students.

We pride ourselves in the support we can give those who are new to teaching, with ongoing training and coaching through our Teacher Academy. About You

You will be highly organised, creative and be able to plan and teach engaging and innovative lessons with demonstrated interpersonal skills. Assessing and tracking student progress, to further plan intervention this will be a vital part of the role and ensuring all students develop the skills they need to succeed.


Ideally you will have experience of teaching or have delivered training in the workplace although this isn't essential as training will be offered to the successful applicant. You must have a positive outlook, be empathetic towards learners and have strong class management skills.


You will be able to teach a range of designated study programs and/ or courses from Level 1 up to Level 3 and will be able to motivate learners to achieve and succeed on their programmes of study


You could qualify for the ‘Taking Teaching Further’ scheme. This could help you with paid study time and additional support in your new role, so you can complete your teaching qualification alongside your work.
