Job Description
We're looking for the right fit for our small team, not necessarily the person with the most qualifications so please don't be put off applying if you are keen to work with cats!
We are primarily a cat sanctuary with many long term residents as well as temporary care of cats who are looking for new homes.
Key skills needed:
- Keen interest in animal welfare.
- Understanding of basic hygiene.
- The role is very physical and includes lifting cat litter bags and cats in their carriers, carrying watering cans, bending to pick up litter trays, etc.
- Attention to detail is very important.
- Knowledge of basic cat care would be helpful.
- Car owner/driver.
- Strong disposition as some days/weeks can bring huge emotional rollercoasters.
About the role:
- Day to day cleaning out, feeding, medicating and other associated care of the cats and other animals living here.
- 18 hours a week at National Minimum Wage, spread over 3 shifts in our cattery.
- Flexible rota
- Extra hours will be available for holiday cover.
- You must be happy to start at 7am with some shifts finishing at 6.30pm. May include every other weekend.
- Shifts will usually be no more than 6 hours.
- You will be responsible and reliable for the day to day care, feeding, medicating and most importantly the end of life care of cats that you will fall in love with.
- Every day promises a variety of horrific smells and a wide selection of faeces, fluff and cleaning.
- Intensely rewarding while also intensely heartbreaking.
- It's definitely not cuddling kittens and stroking cats, sorry.
- Predominantly lone-working.
