We look forward to reading your application for the role of Graphic Designer.

The selected candidate will:

Almost any crime can now involve a digital element, be it in organising its commission through e-mail or social media, using the internet to perpetrate the offence or through leaving of a digital ‘footprint’ which can assist lines of enquiry. The College equips officers and staff with the digital skills and knowledge required to deliver high quality services that: identify digital intelligence and evidence opportunities. A key member of the team designing the digital learning content is the Graphic Designer. In order to continue developing this Digital Intelligence and Investigation (DII) suite of products, you will design and develop all visual aspects of effective, innovative, creative, accessible, user-centred and evidenced-based digital learning solutions and assessment products. You will work closely with other designers and producers, and stakeholders across the to ensure products meet our business objectives, strategic priorities, and the needs of the policing community.

Person specification

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide advice and guidance on media and treatments to develop design options and deliver an agreed solution which meets learning standards and the requirements of the brief within time, budget, and quality parameters.
  • Work collaboratively with the colleagues and stakeholders to design and create graphical source materials for innovative digital learning solutions that address and satisfy agreed design briefs and specifications at the highest standards
  • Ensure the design team makes complex technical information and language simple and accessible for non-technical audiences through user story and personas, and the creation of responsive digital learning designs accordingly, with accessibility in mind, to achieve optimal levels of usability for the College’s diverse users.


To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro and AfterEffects
  • Experience in producing creative and innovative visual solutions in a complex online environment, absorbing large amounts of conflicting information and using it to produce simple user-centred designs
  • The ability to create high quality and effective digital learning products which demonstrate an awareness of the most effective learning methodologies to accomplish a good user experience and interactive learning

This role is available until 31/03/2024 as a fixed term appointment to all applicants or as a secondment opportunity to:

  • colleagues employed directly by the College or the Civil Service. Please note you will be required to obtain the written support of your line manager prior to submitting your application.
  • Serving police staff at the equivalent rank of Inspector or Sergeant who have their chief officer's approval. Chief Officer’s approval must be of NPCC rank, i.e., CC, ACC or DCC. Approval for a secondment must accompany an application.

Central service conditions may apply for police staff and temporary promotion is available.
