About the role and the team:
Operating as part of a 70 lawyer strong national team, the MAPEL team has an emphasis on M&A and Private Equity work. In London, it sits alongside the Public M&A / Capital Markets and Funds teams, with a 4th team based in Birmingham also undertaking M&A and Private Equity work. The MAPEL team is cohesive, supportive and both with clients and team members highly responsive and focused on obtaining the best outcome.
The team's spread of work is broad, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, joint ventures and group restructurings. Sectors of particular strength include "New" Energy / Renewables, Health & Care & Lifesciences and the team has proven that it has the sectoral and international expertise to attract work of the highest quality.
Internationally MAPEL team Partners lead the firm's activities in USA (Boston, California & Texas), Ireland and Scandinavia with team members being regular actual or virtual visitors to each of those jurisdictions.
Clients of the team include Cairngorm Capital, Montreux, Pioneer Point Partners, Brockwell Energy, Downing, Octopus Energy and GSK.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
You will work as part of client and transaction teams with the ability to develop long-term trusted relationships. Working on M&A transactions and otherwise work with all of the Partners and Senior Associates across the range of Corporate work-types. You will be supported to create and develop your own business development initiatives and improve your professional skills.
About you:
We are looking for an Associate or Senior Associate lawyer to join the team as we continue to grow. Please note for this position this we are looking around 1-3 PQE, we are not currently considering NQ for this opportunity due to the requirements of the team.
M&A and/or private equity experience in our sectors of strength, a solid grounding in Corporate law (commensurate with experience) with an appetite for excellent client service and a desire to be the best they can be.

Main Purpose of the Senior Associate role:
- To lead aspects of M&A transactions or to co-lead overall transactions and to otherwise support private equity and take on venture capital work. Alongside this focus, to undertake a wide spectrum of high quality corporate work – including joint ventures and group restructurings. Prior experience of undertaking transactions in the 'New' Energy / Renewables sector would be an advantage, but not at all essential.
Main Purpose of the Associate role:
- To support M&A transactions and to otherwise support private equity and venture capital work. Alongside this focus, to undertake a wide spectrum of high quality corporate work – including joint ventures and group restructurings.
